Global security encompasses a broad range of concerns that impact international stability and peaceful coexistence between nations. From environmental and humanitarian issues to terrorism and political instability, the threats and challenges that global security addresses span national boundaries. As a result, international leaders have become reliant on modernised professional security organisations to manage risk and provide analysis and security solutions for complex global threats and regional instability across the globe.
The growing number of terrorist attacks and terrorist networks have challenged the effectiveness of traditional security methods. In addition, the rise of non-state actors and decentralized terrorist groups make it more difficult for nation-states to combat these extremists using conventional means. As a result, it is increasingly necessary for global security professionals to have a broad understanding of the latest counterterrorism methodologies and cybersecurity policies.
As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, political shifts and global economic turmoil can spark conflict and exacerbate existing tensions in many regions. In addition, natural disasters and climate change can aggravate regional security concerns by increasing the vulnerability of communities to natural resource scarcity or natural disasters.
As such, ensuring human security remains an important issue in global security. Achieving this goal requires a multifaceted approach to the protection of human life, which is reflected in the United Nations’ Human Development Reports – which include seven dimensions of human security: economic, food, health, education, environment, personal, community and political.
